A study looked at various work aspects to determine which industries are the most stressful in the US.
A team at TRĒ House, a cannabinoid company, checked 26 factors, like wages and sick leave, to make a stress index. The lower the score, the higher the stress.
TRĒ House’s spokesperson, Jameson Rodgers, noted that even seemingly simple jobs could get stressful due to inner workings and employee compensation.
Among 71 industries, 25 had over 10% of employees working a second job. Over 30% of workers across the board worried about paying medical bills.
The Most Stressful Jobs Warehousing scored 28.92/100, with 93% on hourly pay, leading to pay deductions for missed hours. They sleep about 6.82 hours, and 12% hold another job.
Nursing and residential care ranked second at 33.16/100. Only 43.9% were satisfied with healthcare options, and 11% had a second job.
Waste management followed closely at 37.01/100. Most worry about medical bills, with many unable to pay, and just 34.7% have paid sick leave.
Food manufacturing landed fourth at 39.12/100. 80.0% are hourly workers, facing similar issues to warehouse staff, and 60% struggle to pay medical bills.
Food services hit 39.19/100, with only 22.0% having paid sick leave, and 62.1% unable to pay medical bills. 11.2% have a second job.
Mining support came sixth at 39.25/100. They work the longest hours, with over half paid hourly and 50.6% worried about medical bills.
Wood products ranked seventh at 39.29/100, with 10.5% holding second jobs.
Hotels and accommodation landed eighth at 39.67/100, with 66.7% unable to pay medical bills.
General merchandise stores hit ninth at 41.66/100, averaging 36.20 working hours.
Health and personal care stores came tenth at 41.69/100, with over 70% on hourly pay.
All these industries share stress due to medical bill worries and hourly pay. Better support like improved insurance or fixed salaries could ease this stress, suggested TRĒ House.
Studies also show high stress in manufacturing, food, transportation, hospitality, and retail industries.
